The poster will feature two of the main cast Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews in the middle in gowns and crowns and to the side a little smaller (less significant) Von Troken family who are the villains impersonating the lost princess looking guilty and a little evil and to the left also a little minimised Anna Kendrick who plays Amelia the lost sister of Mia in normal attire, jeans, tank top, trainers.

It will also include the title ”The Princess Diaries 3” in big bold writing like in the previous films with ‘The Lost Princess” in smaller underneath. It could also have a tiara hanging off the ‘S’ of the princess.
It could also include the names of the stars in big at the top, Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews and Anna Kendrick. Also including the name of the producer John Lasseter who has done TOY STORY.
The tagline could be ”Will they find the lost princess before it’s to late to save the crown?”
It could have a 5 star rating with a quote from the Daily Mail on there as the previous film didn’t make much of a profit as the first movie did.
And it would have an obvious release date.

Chat Show

1) The Ellen Show – Anne Hathaway & Julie Andrews – ITV2 (UK) 1:00pm –
Ellen is a fantastic host and everyone watches her show from all over the world whether on TV or YouTube. There could be a special behind the scenes feature on her show.
2) Graham Norton – Anne, Julie and Anna Kendrick. – BBC1 – 10:30pm
Graham Norton is a fun host to promote the movie on and can incorporate fun vibes to the interview other hosts in the UK can’t. He has all the big stars on his show and has a huge rating.
3) Lorraine – Anne Hathaway and Anna Kendrick – ITV1
This show has a huge rating in the morning and can be good for a younger audience who are on their way to school/college and it’s on a primetime channel for the UK audiences.
4) BBC Radio 1 – Julie Andrews & Anne Hathaway.  – 3:30pm.
A hugely listened to radio show and having them on at this time in the afternoon is perfect for when the kids are coming home in the car or teenagers from college or high school. Perfect for the type of audience we’re aiming for.

Review

  1. The Guardian – It has interviewed so many other Disney movies and it is generally a publication a lot of the public listen too. All seem to be 4 or 5 star ratings.
  2. The Telegraph – Another publication that has reviewed a lot of Disney films and been very thorough with them, also another publication the public generally listens too. They also seem to give the films decent reviews with a decent rating.
  3. New York Times – A key American newspaper that will reach a wide range of people and audiences and a very trust worthy reviewer. It has given some really good reviews of other Disney films and franchises from what I have seen.
  4. LA Times – Another key American newspaper but from a different part of the country. Reaching different audiences but still being reviewed by a trust worthy and reliable source.
  5. Empire – A source that is sorely for films and is known globally for giving really accurate reviews and trust worthy reviews. It is based online as well and can reach a world wide variety of audiences instead of aiming just for one part of the world.

Trailer

My trailer is going to involve short snippets of all the key events in the movie from the enemies discovering the royal secret, them sabotaging the throne, them impersonating the lost princess and fooling them all to gain what they want  and eventually them finding out their fakes all without giving away too much.
I think the release date will be August 14th 2017 as it’s the middle of summer time and around the time the two previous movies were released and with it being the middle of the summer holidays all the young audiences will be coming to see it as it’s a peak time.
I would make sure to focus on all the main stars, Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews & Anna Kendrick and introduce them in the voice over
The title would appear right at the very end with the release date right underneath  and the logo on the poster with the tiara hanging off the ‘S’ would appear at the end with the same red backdrop with a touch of sparkle to make it even more magical and Disney.
I would include for definite a narrator for the trailer to introduce the stars, say the tagline, “Will they find the lost princess before it’s to late to save the crown?” and to emphasis the main attraction points such as “From the producer of the Toy Story franchise”
It will obviously have the trademark Disney castle start with magical sound effects before the trailer appears which highlights what the genre is going to be and who it is aimed for.
The theme tune is going to remain the same as it has from the previous films as it carries on a legacy and brings back childhood memories people want to recapture, it’s called ‘Miracles Happen’ by Myra and definitely has the Disney vibe about it.
I would release the teaser trailer around Christmas time of 2016 as it gives an 9 month gap and suspense for the film and is a good time to get people excited for the summer holidays and the upcoming films. I’d release this on a set up Twitter, Facebook and YouTube pages I’d have set up for my film to promote it and get tongues wagging.
I would then release the actual trailer in April around the Easter Holidays as that is also a peak time for kids to be off and more likely to see and hear about it, I’d have that appear in the adverts of Gogglebox which is on at 9:00pm on Channel 5 on Friday nights which is a key time of the week for people watching TV and it’s a very popular programme that a lot of people young and old tend to watch, I’d also include it in the adverts of Coronation Street which is usually on 7:30pm weekdays except Tuesdays and sometimes a double episode which is also good for showing it multiple times and also shows nearer the time such as X Factor which is primetime telly and has an audience of millions so would be excellent promotion. This can happen from say April 8th – September 14th between all those shows.
It could also have a Radio spot on BBC Radio 1 at peak times such as lunchtime (12:30), mid-afternoon (3:30) and tea time (5:30/6).

Tie-In

Phone App: It could have an app creation where people could dress their favourite characters, clothe them in dresses, tiaras, heels and choose how to have their hair and make up. This would include characters such as Mia, Queen Clarisse, Von Troken family, Amelia. It could also include the character they pick having to search for an item in the room.

Computer App: We could have an official video game called ‘Princess Diaries: Being Royal’ where they would have to pick a character and for each character there is a different mission. So, for Mia she as the new Queen of Genovia would have different responsibilities and levels to unlock for instance a level where she hears from the people and the gamer has to decide whether to grant their wishes or decline their wishes on principal of what is important and not important and if they chose the wrong option, they have to start again. There could be another level where the gamer has to organise the annual slumber party and keep it beyond a Royal budget and other levels too and when they complete the level for one character they unlock another character to go on another mission. This could include 5 or 6 main characters which is 5 or 6 different levels.

Novelization of Movie: Disney has already adapted some movies into novels and some quiet popular movies have adapted themselves into books too. Princess Diaries is already adapted from a novel but this story hasn’t been written as an actual novel and the movie versions are always different. The writer of the original series of books works with the movie almost always and often co-writes the script and so she could have an input into the movie novelization. Other movies that have done this have been quiet successful in selling a lot of copies, this includes the High School Musical franchise, Jumanji, The Terminator and Chucky all of which have been very successful. The book could include pictures to explain the plot as well as the written version of the plot, it could also include little puzzles at the end such as a word search or a picture to color.

McDonalds Happy Meal: Disney movies often use McDonald’s kids meals as popular tie ins using the Happy Meal as a way of getting an audience, Inside Out, Toy Story, A Bugs Life are all movies within the Disney/Pixar companies that have used McDonald’s to tie in with the production. We could include possible tiara, princess diary and Toy Model of characters for the girls and for the boys you could have Toy Models of the prince and enemies. Other popular movies such as the Minon/Despicable Me franchise have all done tie-ins with the McDonald’s company.

Merchandise

Merchandise will be very important and is very important within the Disney sector as they have their very own merchandise store for all their movies, new and old. The ‘Disney’ store is one of the most popular stores among children and even adults and will be great publicity for the movie. There would be:

  1. A replica of Mia’s princess dress for little girls.
  2. There would be a replica collectible tiara and plastic tiara.
  3. A figurine of the main characters.
  4. A pyjama set for the girls.
  5. Princess shoes

Premiere

The location of my film would be in Hollywood, LA, California where everything was filmed and where the biggest stars can attend.  It has played host to many successful premieres in the past including ‘The Good Dinosaur’ and ‘Inside Out’. It would be displayed at the El Captain Theatre  on the 30th July 2016, two weeks prior to general release, where the two previous movies in the franchise where premiered. The theme would be simply all things ‘Princess’ with an optional dress code for the children who come along in their princess dresses and for boys, a smart suit. I would have other Disney princesses in attendance on the red carpet in character and in their attire, for example, Princess Belle, Princess Cinderella, Princess Jasmine and Ariel all there for photographs and to make the premiere that little bit more magical.

We would also have some major stars there including our all star cast, Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews, Anna Kendrick and Christine Baranski. We would also invite Kelly Clarkson whose track ‘Breakaway’ was in the previous film and could be a following trend with this film, we could invite Lily James who was ‘Cinderella’ in the real life adaption, Emma Watson who is ‘Belle’ in the real life adaption, we could have actors with young children attend and Helen Bonham Carter who was in ‘Cinderella’ as the Fairy Godmother.

Film Festivals

The film would be shown at ‘Disney Movie Stars Film Festival’ on August 20th 2016 in LA, this is an appropriate festival to debut the film to loyal Disney fans and would attract the right audiences.
A preview of the movie could also be shown at Epcot, Disneyland at Disney Short Film Festival just before the movie is set to be released, August 10th 2016. This is also appropriate as it is set in Disneyland itself where hundreds of thousands of Disney fans go every year.
